Test Scripts

Test scripts help an office keep track of what works and what doesn’t work in the new environment.  You will be testing all of your processes in the test periods shown in the timeline, and it is important that there is consistency from one test period to the next.

Three documents will help you.

SFIS Test Script

  • The first is the SFIS Test Script, which is a Word document, where ‘scenarios’ are defined.  A scenario is simply a process where you enter data or do some group of related transactions in the database.  On the SFIS Test Script document you define the navigation to the page or pages and what is done on those pages.  You can even include a screen shot of the page.  Your office may have many scenarios that need to be tested.
  • If you find it helpful, please please attach the SFIS Test Script to the Service Now Ticket.

TEST PLAN

  • The second document is a Test Plan, which is an Excel file, used to delineate the testers for various processes and reports, etc.

TEST SAMPLE CASES

  • The third document is an Excel file which shows a list of Sample Cases.  This will usually be people and their WesID.
  • You define which scenario you are testing and the outcome with the specific people on your list.
  • It is beneficial to test the same people in each testing period.
  • This additional Excel file was derived from the testing file created by Mary Kelly and used by Continuing Studies & GLSP during the recent Bundle Upgrade.  Any identifying information has been replaced, for example, with EMPLID, NAME, User 1, User 2, etc.  This worksheet will give you an idea of methods you can adapt for tracking your test processes:

If you don’t get the expected outcome, it should be reported to the technical staff to fix

  • Once you begin testing, please submit any problems to Service Now through your Portal or https://service.wesleyan.edu.
    • Provide as much detail as possible.
    • Please begin the Short Description with the words “CS UPG”
